About me

Why I Write
My name is Alex and I am writer and photographer based in the UK.
Writing was the original dream, the one I lived by before life took over and ordered me to be sensible. Only later in life did creativity find me again and lead me to photography, and more recently back to writing.
I am under no illusion of being a successful writer of any kind so in all honesty this blog is mainly for me, so I can live and die knowing that I didn’t let life take my dreams away, that society didn’t turn me into a robot: incapable of thinking for myself or philosophising about how beautifully complex life actually is. So this blog is a way of honouring that: the philosopher in me and the writer that never really went away, although I thought it had.
Too often in life we try to simplify things, and by doing so we pigeon hole ourselves into one idea, one mindset, one set of values. But black and white thinking breeds discrimination and division, and the world could do with a shed load less of that.
So in this blog I aim to explore and philosophise about many topics, all the wonder and the weight of living, all its complexities. And if, in doing so, I encourage even one person to think a little more deeply about life, then it will have been worth putting these thoughts into the world.
